This course is one of the components of the subject "English descriptive grammar"
1. Grammatical units (phrase, clause, sentence, etc)
2. Verbal categories (tense, aspect, modality) nomnal categories(number, countability)
3. Types of sentences; sentence elements
a) the structure of a clause (subject, predicate, object, complement, adverbial); types of clauses (declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamative),
b) coordination and subordination,
c) types of subordinate clauses,
d) question tags,
e) echo questions.
4. Negation (explicit, implicit negation)
5. Common constructions: cleft, pseudo-cleft sentences, fronting, extraposition, etc)

Students are able to use basic terminology to describe and discuss English syntax.
Students have systematized knowledge of the structure of English sentences and the types of sentences.
Students are able to use their knowledge in their work (as teachers or translators)
Assessment criteria
