1) Construction of telescopes: location of telescopes on Earth, types of telescopes, active optics,
2) Earth and Moon: characteristics, formation,
3) The sun: structure, activity, thermonuclear reactions, solar wind, magnetic storms,
4) Solar System (lesson at UwB Planetarium): journey through the Solar System, planets, dwarf planets, asteroids, Kuiper belt, Oort cloud,
5) Exoplanets: methods of detection, types, number, search for life,
6) Stars and their evolution: star formation, Algol paradox, evolution of the Sun,
7) White dwarf, neutron star, black hole: characteristics, what is it,
8) The Milky Way and its surroundings: structure, size, where we are, the Small and Large Magellanic Cloud, the Andromeda galaxy,
9) The Big Bang: the structure of the Universe, its beginning and end, dark matter and dark energy.

Learning outcomes
The graduate knows and understands the theoretical foundations and general and specific issues to revise existing paradigms in the field of science (SD_WG01),

The graduate knows and understands the problems of the contemporary world (SD_WK01),

The graduate is ready to acknowledge knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems (SD_KK03).
Assessment criteria
A credit test or an oral examination. The oral exam would consist of three questions drawn from a pre-prepared list of topics. The test would consist of closed and open questions (<60% - fail, > 61% - pass). The form of the assessment to be determined with the students.
