Profile: general academic, mode: full time, type of course: obligatory (M_2), area and field of study: humanities / linguistics / Applied English with German, year: III (first degree), semester: VI, 30 hrs, practical classes. Didactic methods: presentations, analysis of language samples, discussions, conversation lectures, group and individual project work. ECTS: 2 (participation in classes=30 hrs, office hours=2 hrs, preparation for the final test=6 hrs, presence during the final test=2 hrs, preparation for the classes= 10 hrs; sum=50hrs).

Prerequisites (description)

The main objective of the course is to familiarise students with the specificity of the translation of non-literary texts rendered for business and administrative purposes. The main component of the classes includes practical classes conducted on the basis of the texts encountered by the instructor in his/her translational professional practice. The student should have basic knowledge of translation studies and of specialized vocabulary within the fields of business and administration. The student should: - learn the translation strategies and techniques which are employed when solving translation problems in texts pertatining to business and administration in both Poland and abroad; - apply the above strategies and techniques; - know the terminology within the field of business and administration; - learn how to create specialized and thematic glossaries; - learn how to use specialized dictionaries, lexicons and thesauri; - be able to translate into Polish and into English the following types of texts: business correspondence, contracts, other legal documents, diplomatic correspondence, etc.

- analysis of translational extracts;
- discussions;
- translation and interpreting;
- lecture (elements);
- PowerPoint presentations;
- graded credit on the basis of attendance, active participations during all the classes, translation project grades and one in-class translation grade.
