Subject taught at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Bialystok during first-cycle studies, educational profile: general academic, field of linguistics.
3rd year of studies, 5th semester, 30 hours.
Topics include:
• Popular search engines of the Russian Internet;
• Russian news portals;
• Journalism in contemporary Russian media (press, television, Internet);
• Contemporary Russian press: socio-political, business, women's, men's, youth, religious, sports, elite, popular, tabloid;
• Journalistic genres;
• Features of journalistic style;
• Analysis of press articles;
• Opinion-forming TV channels;
• Current affairs television programs;
• Analysis of verbal and non-verbal statements in Russian television programs: journalistic, news, interviews, reports, talk shows.
ECTS points: 3 ECTS
Balance of student workload:
Participation in exercises 15 x2 = 30h (1 ECTS)

Upon completion of the course, the student should:
Knowledge:
1. know modern Russian media (TV, radio, press, Internet);
2. know the subject and specifics of Russian journalism;
3. know the basic methods of analysis of Russian journalism;
4. know and understand the basic principles of analysis of verbal and nonverbal communication.
Skills:
5. efficiently search for the necessary information in the Russian media;
6. analyze examples of Russian journalism;
7. collate and compare Russian, Polish and European journalistic statements on socio-political topics;
8. orient yourself in the style of the Russian press;
9. know some metaphors of journalistic language, based on the culture and history of Russia.
Social competence:
10. have a habit of following information in the Russian media;
11. to represent an attitude of openness to cultural diversity;
12. express an assessment of those positions in Russian journalism, which are an example of manipulation.
Assessment criteria
The final grade includes: activity during classes, implementation of group projects, and assessment of oral and written works.
