History of English Literature 340-AS1-2ENL
Students will gain basic knowledge about the history of English (British) literature and the rudimentary skills of analysis and interpretation of literary works.The course has been designed in order to give the students the opportunity to improve their abilities to analyse and interpret a work of literature. The students are supposed to learn basic specialist terminology used in the field and to practise their analytical and interpretative skills. The reading materials are English literature texts: from Beowulf to Angela Carter. Apart from technical aspects of literature the course provides the students with orientation in the main trends of English literature in the historical perspective and gives them basic knowledge concerning chronology of literary periods, their typical trends, genres, motifs etc.
