Term 2023:
Student should have basic prior knowledge in the areas of cultural and literary studies as well as basic competence in history, culture and literature of the English speaking countries. The aim of the course is to broaden students' knowledge and abilities in the areas of cultural and literary studies. During the course, students will explore new areas of research in these fields, improve interpretative abilities of literary and cultural works as well as discover connections between various cultural phenomenon. Term 2024:
Selected aspects of Anglo-American Arthurian tradition (including key critics and representatives). The aim of the course is to broaden students' knowledge and abilities in the areas of cultural and literary studies. During the course, students will explore new areas of research in these fields, improve interpretative abilities of literary and cultural works as well as discover connections between various cultural phenomenon. |
Term 2025:
This course examines Surrealism as an artistic, literary, cinematic, and cultural movement originating in early 20th-century Europe and developing transnational afterlives in Anglophone literature, film, and visual arts. While grounding students in canonical French Surrealism, we focus on its transformations in Britain, the United States, and contemporary global Anglophone culture. |

Learning outcomes
After the course the student knows:
KP7_WG3 - complex literary phenomena and contemporary theories explaining their cultural background and dependencies among them
KP7_WG8 - advanced methods of analysis and interpretation of texts based on tradition and theory of literary studies
KP7_WG10 - advanced terminology for description of cultural phenomena important in analysis of the literature in a given language
KP7_WG11 - contemporary socio-cultural conditions of a given language area
The student can:
KP7_UW3 - conduct an in-depth analysis of literary works applying philological methods allowing for the evaluation of their meaning in historical and cultural processes
KP7_UW4 - conduct a critical analysis and interpretation of various works of culture applying philological methods allowing for the evaluation of their meaning in historical and cultural processes
KP7_UW7 - properly select sources and pieces of information available therein in the field of literary studies and make evaluations, critical analysis and synthesis of the pieces of information
KP7_UK3 - communicate with various groups of interlocutors using specialised literary studies terminology including social-cultural components
KP7_UK4 - conduct debates in English, present and evaluate various opinions and perspectives and discuss them
KP7_UK5 - use English in writing and in speech at C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
KP7_UO1 - coordinate group work
KP7_UU1 - independently plan and conduct the process of self learning throughout their lifespan and direct others in this area
