In terms of knowledge the student:
- has a basic knowledge of the place and significance of philology in relation to other human sciences;
- knows the content, form and function of basic terminology in linguistics / literary studies and knowledge of the cultural field of language;
- knows the basic methods of research and interpretation of source material;
In terms of skills:
-is able to acquire knowledge and expand his/her analytical and research skills individually and to take action independently;
- is able to combine knowledge from different humanities disciplines in order to solve complex situations
- is able to argue substantively, using his/her own judgements, views and positions of other authors, formulate conclusions and make summaries;
In terms of social competence:
- understands and realises the need for continuous learning.

Assessment criteria
Observation and assessment of student activity by the teacher. Oral statements of the student. Participation in consultations, group workshops, discussions, work in archives and libraries (excerpting source material, bibliographic queries, etc.).
Forms of course completion: partial credit, bachelor's thesis, bachelor's exam.
