Prerequisites (description)
The aim of the course is to shape and strengthen correct articulation and intonation habits, correct pronunciation mistakes, develop phonemic-phonetic hearing, integrate phonetic exercises with other practical language learning exercises.
Course contents:
1. General characteristics of the Russian phonological system. Basic notions of orthoepy and phonetics. Accent in the Russian language. Letters and sounds.
2. Rules of vowel pronunciation and their classification. Vowels a, o, e in accented and unaccented position. Pronunciation of the sounds ы, и, у in accented and unaccented position. Pronunciation of the sounds e, o in words of foreign origin.
3. General characteristics and classification of consonants. Pronunciation of the consonants ч, щ, ж, ш, ц. Pronunciation of the consonant л. Pronunciation of soft and hard consonants. Phonetic processes within consonants - similarity in terms of sonority, voicelessness and softness. Pronunciation of consonant combinations (e.g. чн, чт, гк, гч, тз, дз, дж, тж, тш, дш, тч, дч, тс, дс, зж, жж, стск, стл, здн, вств, рдц, лнц, etc.).
4. General characteristics of Russian intonation. Intonation of an indicative, interrogative and exclamatory sentence.

Assessment criteria
Assessment methods and criteria:
Attendance at at least 80 hours of classes (other excused absences should be made up during consultations - the form of passing the material is determined by the teacher), continuous assessment (oral and written homework, phonetically correct reading, recitation and singing of songs, phonetically and intonationally correct reading of dialogues and texts).
