Practical Russian Learning: Lab Classes part 2

The aim of the course is to develop and teach proper pronunciation and intonation habits, correct mispronunciation, develop phonemic and phonetic awareness, integrate phonetic exercises with other practical language learning skills.
Term 2022:
1.Diagnostic class - repeating the most important rules of Russian sounds pronunciation, diagnostic test (checking students' skills in articulation of Russian sounds). 2.Working with a satirical text - listening comprehension practice and introducing elements of translation. 3. Repeating articulation rules and improving students' skills in pronunciation of soft consonants at the end of a word in spoken language (building a statement addressed to the students of the first year of FR, explaining to them the specific character of foreign language philology student's work). 4. Soft and hard sign separators- exercises in improving the ability to differentiate, in others' and own speech, the articulation of iotified vowels after hard consonants, after hard and soft sign separators and after и-. Creating a chain of words with phonetic difficulties. 5. Pronouncing double consonants - theory and exercises to improve articulation skills. Working with song lyrics (listening comprehension and memorisation practice). 6. Consonant voicing and devoicing. Assimilation and lack of assimilation in relation to the voicing of prepositions с, от, к and prefixes c-, от-. Working with a Russian fairy tale text (developing storytelling skills). 7. Practising listening comprehension, memorising and introducing elements of translation. Working with the text of a Russian author song chosen by the instructor. 8. Practising the rules of reduction in Russian literary language and everyday speech, as well as improving listening comprehension of spoken language (listening to parts of Russian TV programmes broadcast in the morning hours and discussion). 9. Pronunciation of Russian female and male names and patronymic names. Writing down parts of satirical texts while listening. 10. Intonation of the affirmative sentence ИК-1. Working with a satirical text - searching for and repeating particular phrases with the intonation of the affirmative sentence. Reading short texts with the use of ИК-1. 11. Intonation of the interrogative sentence - exercises to improve the ability to distinguish sentences in which ИK-2 and ИK-3 are used, in other people' statements and in students' own statements. 12. Fairy tale - looking for IK- 3 (and who are you?), learning by heart. 13. Working with a full-length film - improving the ability to summarise and discuss certain scenes and other elements of the film. 14. Practising articulation of particular grammatical forms ( singular possessive endings of masculine and neuter nouns and personal forms and infinitives with the ending of -тся- ться of verbs). Writing short stories using the given words. 15. Theory and practical activities on storytelling technique (pause and logical stress). Working with the text of a selected fairy tale by Krylov.

Assessment criteria
Missing one class is allowed, material from each subsequent class should be covered during consultations, continuous assessment (oral and written homework, correct phonetic reading, recitations and singing of songs, correct phonetical and intonational reading of dialogues and texts), oral assessment during the last class
