Practical Translation of Specialized Texts from a Foreign Language 340-RT2-1PTTP
The main goal of the classes is to acquire the ability to prepare written translations of specialized texts.
Through practical translation of selected Russian documents and fragments of texts (legal, administrative, commercial, medical and other specialized), the classes familiarize students with the formal and substantive rules of performing specialized translations. The classes familiarize students with typical expressions for a given text, characteristic terminology and features of the specialized Polish/Russian language, as well as translation problems in translating them.
Program content:
1. Practical learning to use monolingual and bilingual dictionaries and specialized dictionaries when translating texts.
2. Typology of specialized languages.
3. Elements of specialist terminology from the fields covered by the analyzed texts.
4. Exercises in written translation of specialized texts from Russian into Polish.
a) legal and economic texts (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, prenuptial agreement, divorce petition),
b) financial and economic texts (e.g. Employment contract, Purchase and sale contract),
c) scientific and technical texts (e.g. user manual, technical specifications, description of product composition),
d) scientific and medical texts (e.g. Medical certificate, Medical history, Medical documentation).
