Prerequisites (description)

The topic of the seminar corresponds to the profile of the seminar (linguistics, literary studies) and the individual research issues of the student's diploma thesis. 3rd semester 1. Improving the technique of writing a master's thesis. 2. Expanding knowledge on a selected topic. 3. Improving language skills in Russian and the ability to prepare written works in Russian and present the results of one's research work in writing. 4th semester 1. Presenting the results of your research work in the form of a finished master's thesis.

Learning outcomes

A student who has passed the course knows and understands:
1. complex linguistic phenomena and processes, theories explaining the relationships between them and contemporary trends in linguistics KP7_WG1;
2. advanced terminology and extensive research methodology in the field of linguistics KP7_WG4;
3. advanced methods of analysis and interpretation of texts and other cultural products of a given linguistic area within selected linguistic traditions and theories KP7_WG7;
4. in-depth conceptual framework for describing cultural phenomena important for the analysis of language and the communication process KP7_WG9;
5. contemporary socio-cultural conditions of a given language area KP7_WG11;
6. problems and challenges related to language and communication and their complex connections with the fundamental dilemmas of modern civilization KP7_WK1;
7. principles of protection of industrial property and copyright KP7_WK3.
A student who has passed the course is able to:
1. formulate and solve complex and unusual problems, innovatively selecting appropriate methods and tools using knowledge in the field of language science and translation studies KP7_UW1;
2. properly select sources and information derived from them in the area of linguistics and evaluate, critically analyze and synthesize this information KP7_UW6;
3. communicate with diverse audiences using specialized terminology in the field of linguistics and translation, taking into account socio-cultural elements KP7_UK1.
A student who has passed the course is ready to:
1. critical assessment of the received content KP7_KK1;
2. recognizing the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems KP7_KK2.

Assessment criteria

Observation and assessment of the student's activity by the instructor. Participating in consultations, group workshops, discussions; work in libraries.
Forms of passing the course: partial pass, master's thesis, master's examination.

The set of proposed literature on the subject is determined by the topics of master's theses conducted in a given didactic cycle.
