Translational Skills – Translation of Literary and Moderately Specialized Texts into a Foreign Language 340-RT2-2WTP

The student knows and understands:
- complex linguistic phenomena and processes, theories explaining the relationships between them and contemporary trends in linguistics KA7_WG1,
- complex translation concepts and translation methods and strategies KA7_WG6,
- advanced methods of analysis and interpretation of texts and other cultural products of a given linguistic area within selected linguistic and linguistic traditions and theories KA7_WG7,
- advanced methods of analysis and interpretation of texts within selected literary traditions and theories KA7_WG8,
- in-depth conceptual framework used to describe cultural phenomena important for the analysis of language and the communication process KA7_WG9,
- in-depth conceptual framework used to describe cultural phenomena important for the analysis of literature of a given language area KA7_WG10,
- contemporary socio-cultural conditions of a given language area KA7_WG11,
- problems and challenges related to language and communication and their complex connections with the fundamental dilemmas of modern civilization KA7_WK1.
Student is able to:
- formulate and solve complex and unusual problems, innovatively selecting appropriate methods and tools using knowledge in the field of language science and translation studies KA7_UW1,
- carry out a critical analysis and interpretation of various cultural products using philological methods allowing to assess their importance in the historical and cultural process KA7_UW4,
- select and use appropriate methods and tools, including advanced information and communication techniques (ICT) KA7_UW5,
- properly select sources and information derived from them in the area of ​​linguistics and evaluate, critically analyze and synthesize this information KA7_UW6,
- properly select sources and information derived from them in the area of ​​literary studies and evaluate, critically analyze and synthesize this information KA7_UW7,
- communicate with diverse audiences using specialized terminology in the field of linguistics and translation, taking into account socio-cultural elements KA7_UK1,
- communicate with diverse audiences using specialized terminology in the field of knowledge of acquiring and teaching languages, taking into account socio-cultural elements KA7_UK2,
- communicate with diverse audiences using specialized terminology in the field of literary studies, taking into account socio-cultural elements KA7_UK3,
- conduct a debate in a foreign language, present and evaluate various opinions and positions and discuss them KA7_UK4,
- manage the work of the team KA7_UO1.
The student is ready to:
- critical assessment of the received content KA7_KK1,
- recognizing the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems KA7_KK2,
- fulfilling social obligations, inspiring and organizing activities for the social environment KA7_KO1,
- active participation in activities to preserve the cultural heritage of the region, country and Europe KA7_KO3,
- creating planes of tolerance and cooperation in the conditions of multicultural communication and a religiously diverse society KA7_KO4,
- responsible performance of professional roles, taking into account changing social needs, including developing the achievements and maintaining the ethos of the profession KA7_KR1,
- observing and developing the principles of professional ethics and working to ensure compliance with these principles KA7_KR2.

The course ends with a final grade. When grading, the student's activity in classes, presentation of translation problems and solutions, and the average grade for independent written translation of texts (control work) and completion of home exercises are taken into account.
Attendance at exercises is mandatory. In the event of an absence due to illness, the student is obliged to immediately present a sick leave within 7 days after the end of the leave. Missing more than 5 classes in a semester will result in failure to obtain credit.
Obtaining positive semester grades in the exercises is a condition for being admitted to the exam in this subject.
