3D Modeling 390-FS1-2M3D
Study profile general academic Study mode: full-time Course type: compulsory, Module 3 – Computer Science Tools Field and discipline of science: Field of exact and natural sciences, Discipline of physical sciences Year of study/semester: 2nd year, 2nd semester, first-cycle studies Prerequisites: completion of the following course: Operating Systems Number of teaching hours: laboratory classes – 45 hours Teaching methods: laboratory work, discussion, consultations, independent student work at home ECTS credits: 5.00 Student workload: participation in laboratory classes: 1.8 ECTS, consultations: 0.6 ECTS, independent student work at home: 1.8 ECTS, preparation for assessment: 0.8 ECTS Quantitative indicators: student workload related to classes requiring direct participation of the teacher: 2.4 ECTS, student workload related to practical classes: 1.8 ECTS
LABORATORY CLASSES
1. introduction to the Blender environment, using the mouse and keyboard – user interface
2. adding predefined primitives; translation, rotation, scaling, keyboard shortcuts and mouse operations
3. rendering (Blender and Cycles engines), materials and textures, procedural textures, working in the UV Editor and with Nodes
4. modeling still-life objects (e.g. glass, fork, chair, key, oven, bedside lamp, chamber pot), texturing, lighting; modifiers: Subdivision Surface, Mirror, Screw
5. elements of physics in Blender – collisions between bodies, creating simple animations, keyframes and interpolation; rigid body, soft body; initial velocity of objects
6. more on 3D modeling – practical exercises (room interior, exterior of a building, add-ons facilitating building creation); MetaBall objects; texture painting; parametric modeling – gears and gear mechanisms
7. armatures and skeletal animation – chest, hand, character
8. camera and animation (dependencies: movement along a path, orienting the camera toward an object)
9. video editor – combining videos and images, adding music, subtitles and simple effects
10. dimensioning (MeasureIt add-on), creating files for 3D printing, linking elements through dependencies
11. selected add-ons (Extra Object, ArchiMesh, BoltFactory and others)
If time permits (depending on the group's level of proficiency):
a) working with images and videos: creating videos – timelapse; video effects (e.g. blurring/covering the face of a character),
b) adding 3D effects to videos, tracking objects in a video

Learning outcomes
The graduate is able to:
-[KP6_UW6] learn independently by finding the necessary information in professional literature, databases and other sources, and critically evaluating information from unverified sources;
-[KP6_UO1] organize their own work and the work of a team;
The graduate is prepared to:
-[KP6_UU1] engage in lifelong learning and inspire and organize the learning process of others;
-[KP6_KK1] critically evaluate their knowledge and the content they receive;
-[KP6_KK2] recognize the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems;
-[KP6_KK3] cooperate with experts when encountering difficulties in solving problems independently;
-[KP6_KO1] fulfill social obligations and counteract disinformation within the scope of the knowledge acquired.
Assessment criteria
Assessment based on attendance and homework assignments.
