(in Polish) Popkultura w państwach Dalekiego Wschodu: od mandi do K-popu 470-SW1-2PPD
The purpose of the course is to familiarize students with selected aspects of contemporary popular culture of the Far East - in particular Japan and Korea, as well as China. The classes are interdisciplinary in nature and include an analysis of music, visual arts, graphic literature (manga), animation and other forms of cultural expression that have become global phenomena and penetrated into Western consciousness.The content implemented during the course of the classes, shows both the historical conditions of the emergence of these phenomena and their importance in shaping the image of the Far East in the modern world. Special emphasis will be placed on the relationship between tradition and cultural heritage. Program content to be covered includes:
- Introduction to the issues of Far Eastern pop culture.
- Inspiration and presence of Far Eastern cultural elements in contemporary popular music (from J-pop to K-pop).
- Traditional Japanese woodcut and the development of manga, manhwa (Far Eastern comics).
-History of Japanese animation: origins and development to the present day; popularity of animation in Poland and the West; juxtaposition with Western animation.
-Religious elements (Buddhism and shintō) in anime - with particular emphasis on the themes of death and the hereafter; juxtaposition of Far Eastern beliefs with the circle of Christian culture.
-History and folklore in the works of the Japanese film studio Ghibli.
- Symbolism of animals in Far Eastern culture and beliefs and their perception in pop culture.
- Elements of folklore. Yokai and other Asian demons in modern culture and mass pop culture.
- Ball Jointed Dolls - modern puppetry art in Japan, Korea, China and its popularity in Western culture.
- The phenomenon of Korean serials (K-dramas) and their place in media culture.
