Current Methods Used in Chemical Analysis 310-ERS-1PDWII-11
LECTURE:
1. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with particular emphasis on modern detection systems: corona aerosol detector (CAD) and fluorescence detector (FLD) - structure, principle of operation, possibilities and limitations, examples of determined substances (e.g. compounds with natural fluorescence and subject to derivatization reactions).
2. Chemometry in chemistry - selected problems: definition of chemometry, specificity of multidimensional data, area of interest in chemometry, division of chemometric methods. Selected examples of the application of chemometric methods to real research problems.
3. Flame and electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS, ETAAS) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS): principle of operation and apparatus; spectral and non-spectral interferences, methods of interference elimination: the use of modifiers, background corrections, reaction and collision chambers; application of methods in chemical analysis.
4. Electrochemistry: new materials and strategies used in the electroanalysis of compounds - boron-doped diamond electrode, preparation, characterization, possibilities of determinations and limitations, examples of determined substances. Analytical procedures to increase the sensitivity of determinations: modifications of the BDD electrode, application of surfactants in electroanalysis.
5. Flow injection analysis (FIA) and its practical applications, types of detection (e.g. chemiluminescent) and possible applications using the principles of green analytical chemistry.
