Inventory Methods for Ungulates 320-ERS-1IME
Number of hours (total): 15,
Lecture: 4 , Field course: 11. Semester: summer
ECTS: 3.
The goal of the course is to show main direct and indirect inventory methods for ungulates such as: drive counts, distance-sampling, pellet group count, animal track count on transects, camera traps. Students will know reasons, methods and software (Distance) for animal count and density estimation. During field work (in winter) they will train in practice several of these methods. In addition, they will be able to learn how to recognize snow tracks and other activity signs of a given ungulate species in the field.
Other topics:
The rules of research in the field.
Analysis of the collected data - estimating density of the large mammals using Distance software.
Practical application of traditional and modern methods in the field study of wild
mammals.
