Substantive content:
1. Sources of variation. Methods for determining variation within populations.
2. Assumptions of Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.
3. Genetic drift and its consequences in both small and large populations, including the bottleneck effect and founder effect.
4. Natural selection: directional, stabilizing, disruptive, and apostatic selection.
5. Kin selection and the concept of altruism.
6. How do new species arise? The process and modes of speciation.

Efekty kształcenia
1. The student explains the variability found within populations and species, as well as the processes that contribute to this variability.
2. The student can discuss the connections between the principles of inheritance and the evolutionary patterns observed in organisms.
3. The student understands the processes that affect genetic imbalance within populations.
4. The student can apply the Hardy-Weinberg principle to analyze processes occurring in natural populations.
5. The student can use appropriate professional terminology to describe processes occurring within and between populations and species.
