Toxicology 320-ERS-1TOEz
Profile of studies: general academic
Form of studies: full-time
Type of course: compulsory subject
Field and discipline of science: biological sciences, biology
Year of studies / semester: 3rd year of the first cycle / winter semester
Prerequisites: the student should have knowledge of biochemistry.
Number of teaching hours with the division into the forms of teaching: lecture - 15 hours, laboratory - 15 hours.
Teaching methods: lecture, laboratory exercises, consultation, presntation, disscussion
ECTS credits: 3
The aim of the lectures is to learn about the toxic effects of various xenobiotics and physico-chemical factors present in the environment on plant and animal organisms. Laboratory exercises prepare for work in research laboratories. The aim of the laboratories is to develop the skills of identifying toxic substances in biological material and determining their content. During the exercises, the student learns about the influence of xenobiotics on living organisms and assesses the toxicity of substances using simple toxicological tests. In addition, the ability to correctly assess the risks of working with chemical substances (knowledge of safe handling of chemicals - learning the characteristics of the hazards of hazardous substances and their labeling) and the rules of occupational health and safety in a chemical laboratory are developed.
